What you see is what you hear.
Ok ok, I used a drum machine and a bunch of effects…
The Drifting Drone
November 28, 2007
I participated in an art exhibition connected to the Full Pull festival in Malmö in late summer 2006. It turned out to one of the worst days of my life (seriously!). This was because of three reasons:
- My “art piece” broke down just before opening (my fault due to terrible construction)
- The key to my apartment suddenly stopped working (is that even physically possible?)
- My laptop was stolen (together with a projector I had borrowed)
But the laptop wasn’t just stolen, the humiliation was perfected – someone cut up the laptop wire lock, disconnected all cables then carefully packed everything in a big bag and finally walked out through the main entrance.
The concept of the piece was to build an interactive drone with levers connected to oscillators. The tuning of the oscillators had no scale or frequency limits, so the drone seemed to drift aimlessly, never returning to the same position (read and listen more here).
This video was shot just a few hours before the theft with a cell phone camera. I can’t help but think there’s something strange going on in the clip. Maybe the whole thing was too much for my poor laptop. The eerie drone somehow opened a gap in the space-time continuum and the drone drifted away, carrying my laptop with it.
No, I’m not rationalizing. Not at all.
Note:
Rumours told me about a suspicious red-bearded man being seen at the scene of crime right before the theft. How more Lynchian can it get? (Let me know if you see him though)
Solipcism

“I am currently writing a book, which I hope will be read by thousands of people, and therefore I must isolate myself from all these people. I have been careful to point out that – while I am writing this book – I am not at home, so that no one, not even the people who probably will read the book, can disturb me in my solitude”.
/Walter Ong
(Talking about how the written language re-defines human consciousness)
Gee, spot on from Padre! Replace the act of writing with the act of music making and suddenly the stereotypical unsociable laptop artist looks quite silly. Too bad I belong to that group.
